Local butchers and supermarkets can also be found in Roldan and Los Alcazares (English butchers).

Shopping

On a summer morning, a trip to a local street market in one of the towns around the Mar Manor is quite a tradition. Amongst other things, you are sure to find a variety of cured products, fruit, vegetables and clothes. Market day is on Monday morning in San Pedro del Pinatar, Tuesday and Saturday mornings in Los Alcazares, Wednesday morning in Santiago de la Ribera and Sunday morning in Cabo de Palos. Donít forget to wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun.

For a fantastic selection of clothes, shoes and leather goods you need to visit the cities of Murcia and Cartagena. Shops are generally open from 9am to 2pm and then again from 5pm to 8pm Monday to Saturday.

Cycling

You can hire a bike and cycle virtually all the way around the Mar Menor along trails, dirt tracks and an old royal drive-way, none of which ever stray far from the coast. The 56.4 km cycling route around the Mar Menor is a pleasant and not difficult ride that can be covered in about 7 hours. There is just one stretch, in the area known as Las Encanizadas at the northern end of La Manga, where various canals prevent crossing by bike.

Sailing/Watersports

Harness the power of the wind, sailing, windsurfing or kite-surfing. Three very popular water sports in the calm waters of the Mar Menor and surrounding areas such as Cabo de Palos and La Manga. This saltwater lagoon is ideal for jet-skiing, kayaking and water-skiing.
If you like riding the thermals (paragliding or hang-gliding) you can enjoy both sports in the Sierra de la Muela in Alhama de Murcia, one of the villages in the Sierra Espuna. The ridge here reaches a height of 631 metres and is considered one of the best areas for free flight.
The Mar Menor Water Sports Consortium offer a wide range of activities and services for all the family. There are more than 25 water sports centres where you can learn, perfect and enjoy sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, jet-skiing or diving at any time of year.

Diving

The Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas marine reserve offers diving enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the depths in an almost virgin marine environment. There are many different species of sealife, as well as a number of well-preserved wrecks that are now home to barracuda, tuna, moray and conger eels.

You will find a folder in the lounge, which contains information on interesting things to do, recommended restaurants and bars.

Please feel free to use any of this information, but please replace before you leave, and if you find somewhere of interest please add the details to the folder
